Went in there this weekend and it has really changed. 5 handpulls all on and a massive menu of beers from all over the world. They claim to have over 60. The food has changed too, I had a Chicken & Stilton pie, and it was excellent. A nice change. Cheers.

Just dreadful - three of the handpump clips were turned around, the Bombardier was off, and the Spitfire was on the turn. Clueless bar staff ("I've just been in the country for a week"). Many decent pubs nearby, so avoid...

Rarely do I feel the need to post negative comments on pubs, but regrettably I have absolutely no choice in this instance. This pub was visited by default by myself and various friends last Saturday, after all the usually reliable and excellent pubs nearby such as the Market Porter closed at 11. We came to regret wanting that 1 final drink. The male members of the bar staff ("members" being the operative word) weren't especially friendly, but that isn't unusual. We ordered various pints of ale (they had 4 casks on despite it being more of a lager and rock sort of a place), but when asked if they could remove the long sparkler, which was making all pints very frothy and on average was taking a good 10-15% off the full pint (thereby clawing back about 25-30p per pint?!), we were completely ignored, and the dolt behind the bar poured the beers as usual (after he tried to have us believe that the beer would be MORE heady WITHOUT the device!). As if this wasn't ignorant enough, when we asked (politely) for top-ups without the sparkler, I was asked "what's wrong with them?" by yet another charmless moron. I told him, and he decided to be as belligerent as possible, as if the request were totally unreasonable, and roundly refused. When I asked why, he declared that he "didn't want to" take it off, and when I asked whether this was because he was not keen on being customer-focused and he was a charmless idiot, he responded by saying that it was because he "wasn't paid to serve pricks like you". Well, decide for yourselves punters, but frankly I have never experienced such rude, arrogant, ignorant behaviour from barmen before, even in the Smoke. If it was some stupid inflexible management policy to keep the damn things on then he should've said politely and we would've accepted it. Without wishing to sound precious, I thought this was truly appalling. Clearly the customer is always wrong here. Yet, the place was jumping, presumably with people who have little discernment in either pubs, service or beer, and couldn't give a toss about something as trivial as wanting a full (or at least fullER) pint. This then led onto further unpleasantness when my other friends were refused further service (why we would've patronised them any more is a mystery!) because one of us "had been rude to the bar staff"!! We narrowly avoided an entirely avoidable punch-up as these 2 ignoramuses proceeded to be just as insulting to others of my group and we eventually beat a hasty retreat. The only reasonable people there? The doormen! Unusual, but true! Reading between the lines I got the distinct feeling this wasn't the first time they'd had to step in after the shitty staff had caused ructions with unsuspecting visitors who dared to ask for something they didn't want to do. This could be so much better, but whilst the current regime and staff are in place, it will only attract grubby under 21 lads who want loud music, Australians (there were many who seemed to be loving the place), and people who love a fight. I can only hope this has served to at least put a few people with good taste off visiting!

A bit long and narrow, but otherwise all things to all men. Beer's good, friendly bar staff, decent atmosphere, big screens, pool table, good train links, drunk women turning up from who-knows-where at 11.30pm, and now live music on Saturday nights. LoudMouse, a well-known covers outfit from West London, are appearing. I caught up with the Subway Monkeys the other night and they weren't bad either. Ace bass player. Well worth a visit.

Terri, the new manager here has great plans for this place. She wants to drag it into the 21st century with a complete makeover. She has started putting on live bands at the weekends and this place will be really rocking!
check out Subway Monkeys when they are on....excellent covers band ..the place will be rocking !!!

Everything in the place was sticky as if rubbed down with a damp rag leaving the congealed beer behind. Bar staff were not especially friendly and the beer was warm and flat. Will not be visiting again.

If you have any Ozzy mates, take 'em to this place. A full-on young crowd, gets very racous at the weekend, sometimes a bit overbearing if you're an old git like me. Plenty of oppurtunity to get steaming and enjoy the atmosphere, especially if you sneak in the downstairs private bar. Enjoy.

For some reason I really like this place. Music gets really overbaring later on, and it gets jam packed ... but otherwise I've had some great nights out with mates in here.

Came across this pub by accident last night, whilst looking for a latenight boozer - and what a find. £1 to get in and it's open until 2am. Perfect for a few more pints without having to go to a club.

Pub attached to a youth hostel, with some dancing room at the back. Notwithstanding this, it is popular with locals of all ages as well as travelling aussies. Has Golden Tee, which is worth three points. Selection of beers mediocre. Door staff can be aggressive.

Open till about 1 in the morning most nights, sometimes later, and you don't need to pay to go in or be in before 11, so it's a good place to go to after a nicer pub (such as the George or the Globe) has chucked out.

Now this is a decent pub with helpful and friendly staff (unlike the morons who work in the scabby, infinitely overrated Market Porter round the corner). It's not rammed to the rafters and has a nice olde-worlde-boozerly atmosphere but they could do with a bit more ventilation in the back - gets a bit stuffy. Plus you can go into the cubicle in the gents at any time of any day of the week and, without fail, some wino has barfed in it beforehand. Otherwise, quality.
