user reviews of the Clog and Billycock, Blackburn

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I have had 2 pleasant visits to the Clog and Billycock recently. The service has improved immensely and is now very friendly and efficient. I had also received poor service earlier in the year and my complaints were taken seriously by the management. They seem to have sorted out these issues and the food is excellent. The menu is just right for this type of pub. You can choose well cooked and presented local food without being faced with the usual offerings of chips, chips and chips! I will definitely be visiting again soon.

The food quality was quite good.

The sevice was very poor due a very bad set of attitudes from staff.

After ordering puddings and coffee after main meal myself and my mother were served coffee first.
As we politely told the waitress that we ordered puddings as well we were rudley snapped at for 'not requesting that we wanted the puddings before the coffee'.
As we furthered our complaint regarding this strange attitude we were greeted by smug grins by the waitress who i pointed this out to.
This situation resulted in my view to nasty partisan behaviour towards a son taking his mother out to lunch.

As my mother became upset the deputy managers attention was requested, this person refused to let us speak to the manager as 'he was on the phone'and did his best to talk over my mothers questions.
The further orders were cancelled and we left.

We have been good customers to this restaurant over a number of years now and have made several recommendations to friends and family.
This wont be happening in the future.

What a remarkable and delightful change in this place in the last 3 years. 3 years ago you would have been lucky to get inside, not because it was busy, but the lack of welcome would have put you off before you really put your head in past the door.

Now however, with the expansion, investment and the kind helpful staff who would welcome you for a coffee, a beer or a meal, you feel that you are part of a family friendly pub/restaurant.

They will help with items not on the menu as well.
Whoever trained and sellected these guys and girls in the new revamped Clog and Billy Cock, should be proud of their sellection and training processe.

Went here on a Sunday after its re-opening at around 4.30pm expecting it to be fairly quiet. It was busy but got a table fairly quickly. As has been stated, this is owned by the Three Fishes people and has a pretty similar menu, i.e. local produce and dishes. Ordered no probs and food arrived about 15 mins later, it was excellent, and prompted us to have desserts which were also fantastic. I also had a nice pint of Thwaites Arkwright which slipped down nicely, shame I was driving so could only have the one. Admittedly the place was v busy as we left and the chalkboard showed a wait of 40 mins minimum. My only "complaints" were the heating was on, despite it being a sunny day, and the bar staff were over-worked. They were very pleasant though and apologised for keeping people waiting. Oh, and they'd run out of bread!! Apart from that, we'll deffo be back, probably on a weeknight though.

It's not really gonna be a "gastropub" as that implies fiddly bits of fancy food on the middle of a big plate. It's sister pub, The Three Fishes at Mitton near Whalley, gives a better idea of what this place will be like: hotpots, potted shrimps, steak, devilled chicken, haddock and chips and the like and it's all local produce. I'd give the Three Fishes 10 out of 10 but I can't rate this one as it's not open yet (2 Sept scheduled; it's 22 August now)

I was informed last night that this place is to re-open as a gastropub. Watch this space..

Really nice country pub, which is under new management. It was a little quiet, but the food was very tasty and in plentyfull supply. We thought the landlord could have done with being a bit more cheery but all in all we had a pleasant afternoon sat outside in the sun and the peace and quiet, with just the cows in the nearby fields, which does have a public pathway to walk off the food. :)

Excellent Pub.. has new management since the drug bust, can't fault the food (all freshly prepared) cask beer. Would suggest the breakfast on sat or sunday excellent value. Also has a no-smoking policy.

Visited on a Bank Holiday. Welcome by landlady, she was pleasent. Ordered drinks. Returned to bar to order sandwiches. Served by LANDLORD not well mannered..very abrupt gave impression everything was to much trouble. Asked what sandwiches available ( these are made on the spot and fresh)After much thinking the reply was "Only Cheese" no wonder the pub was empty
