please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A little disconcerted by some of these reviews, we turned up anyway since we had arranged to meet our daughter and son-in-law near Marbury at the end of their tour of the Llangollen. The landlord was welcoming and obliging and the beer excellent-plenty of choice for a country pub. The food was superb. The boaters said that it was by far the best that they had experienced during their week on the canal. So if you are in the area go and try it. It was quite busy, so advise booking if you intend eating. We were lucky!

Nice little pub, friendly staff and decent enough food. Beer selection is a little disappointing compared to other pubs in the area, but they had a couple of real ales on tab.

Very dissappointed, expensive food + not much choice of beer-better places on the canal

This is by far one of the best pubs in south Cheshire. Best Sunday lunch for a long time! I just hope it can stay open as it has been closed for a long time before Rob, the landlord, took it on. The place has been turned around, absolutley fabulous!

Made to feel welcome and all the staff were friendly and happy to help. Strongly recommend going for an evening meal. Absolutley superb and you are treated only to the highest standards. All your needs catered for by the experienced staff. Great value and I don't think I'd find a better place for service or value! The village is worth a look too.

It's a new site, 'under construction', but gives you a flavour...

It was my father in law’s birthday, yesterday and despite the precipitative weather, we decided on a “drive out” and pub lunch. Altrincham is a fair distance from Marbury, but having found the review on your web site, we were not disappointed by the outcome. The food, wine, beer and service were excellent and the impression of what seemed at first, as a cold dining room, was quickly dispelled by a re-coaling of the fire. Pubs of this quality need to be patronised and whilst I am already planning my next visit to what is undoubtedly an excellent village pub, this is more than supported by the views across the Mere from the Church, on what I feel, will next time, be an excellent Summer’s day……

I visited this on a canal trip with 8 other people! We all loved the food, the atmosphere & the beer. Absolutely first rate & highly recommended for anyone who enjoys any of the above. Just hope Rob, the landlord, will be able to buy the pub to make all the other improvements he wants.

Went last night based on previous reviews. Dinner for a tenner, two courses & coffee. Can't remember such a bargain! The local lamb's liver on colcannon was absolutely delicious. And they serve Crannachans in the dessert list! YUM! Really, really nice place, all candlelit, top service, and a good chinwag with the very nice (!) Landlord. I booked again for next week. Can't say more than that!

Beautiful old farmhouse pub sat right on the village green which sports a fabulous ancient oak tree. The Swan is a locally famous pub, run by 'gaffers' Rob Adam and Eddie Street. Rob runs the front of house, and Eddie's a chef of 35 years. The food at The Swan is absolutely superb - all fresh, and presented immaculately. The theme these guys use is "Creative Country Cooking". The staff are incredibly professional, and you'll be sure to be 'met & gret' by both Rob and Eddie at some point. I couldn't recommend The Swan more. Sunday Lunch is the best you can have away from home, and it's only £6.95! Plus Marbury is an idyllic village - it's won the South Cheshire Beautiful Village competition about a dozen times.

Arrived on a wet evening following a walk from the nearby canal narrow boat. Somewhat under dressed for the occasion. Made to feel welcome. Food was not what we were expecting of a "village pub". It was a bit special. The Adnams beer was exellent. The man in charge sounded like Richard E Grant

Fantastic food, fantastic setting. 70 yards from Marbury's famous "lopsided church" with grand views across the lake. An idyllic spot for Sunday lunch or a pint in the sun
