Called in one evening early June. Got the history from the new landlord. A lot has been done to turn the place around after some bad experiences with past tennants that draggged the place down. Now has very interesting pictures on the wall (for sale but v pricey) and appealing gastro type food. Very comfortably fitted out, and nice welcome from the staff who were very helpful and attentive. Two guest beers from local micros. A lot a work has been done to get the place back on its feet; I hope it succeeds. GrahamH - 13 Jun 2011 14:31
Back up the canal so took a look felt out of place - bit clicky wouldn't bother to make the effort again! DD1971 - 30 Oct 2010 12:04
Called in here last Sunday lunchtime, July 4th, while on canal boat holiday. Was told pub closing that evening. Still had very good Sunday roast although place was rather like the Marie Celeste as apart from pleasant barmaid, we were the only people there. Most fittings etc had been removed so was very barren. Decent pint of Salopian Gold though. Heard in Wrenbury that an unspecified person/company may be looking at taking it over. stoatface - 7 Jul 2010 17:53

A little disconcerted by some of these reviews, we turned up anyway since we had arranged to meet our daughter and son-in-law near Marbury at the end of their tour of the Llangollen. The landlord was welcoming and obliging and the beer excellent-plenty of choice for a country pub. The food was superb. The boaters said that it was by far the best that they had experienced during their week on the canal. So if you are in the area go and try it. It was quite busy, so advise booking if you intend eating. We were lucky! dbest - 5 Oct 2008 15:48
