Called in for lunch. Had a very nice burger and chips. Excellent service, and the Butcombe was on good form.

A brief comment to endorse those praising the food. Excellent value for money with prompt and courteous attention.....who could ask for more ?

I LOVED the food here and the staff were so friendly, especially when they had a difficult customer to the side of me. The staff were polite and well mannered, constantly making sure we were happy enough with our food and drinks. Food was delicious, and the deserts were to die for! Chocolate fudge cake was gorgeous and someone I was with enjoyed the lemon cheese cake (huge portion). Did originally go here for a Sunday Roast but they'd run out of Chicken as a busy morning, this didn't bother me at all knowing their other food was just as nice. Definitely wouldn't listen to the negative reviews, this place is LOVELY.

Recommended to friends and family.

Just come back from The Rose and Crown having had a lovely meal. Totally disagree with the previous comment. Gammon steak was a good size and very nicely cooked. The homemade burgers were one of the best we've ever tasted. We followed this up with lovely desserts which were very generous. Service throughout was attentive, polite and very efficient.
All in all excellent value for money and would thoroughly recommend.

After having had good meals at the Rose & Crown in the past, I'm sad to say that the meal we had there last night was awfull. We were told there would be a 10-15 minute wait. Actual wait 1hour 20 minutes. My tiny Gammon steak was totally hidden beneath two fried eggs & mushrooms that appeared to have been deep fried & were oozeing with oil. The gammon steak also appeared to have been deep fried in oil & the rind, that should have been nice and crispy was like a lump of oily rubber. The side dishes of chips & peas arrived about 5 minutes after the mains course by which time the Gammon & eggs had congealed into a cold greasy lump. Not reccomended. Rant over.....

Turned up at this pub on a long walk from Peasedown to Bath, planning to pop in for a quick pint, only to find that despite signs outside saying it was open all day on a Saturday the pub was closed. We were even told that it was closed by a member of staff. Such as shame as the pub has a nice beer garden and when I ahve been before it has been ok.

I visited the Rose and Crown last week with family. Food was excellent; one of the nicest steaks we've ever had. All of us commented how lovely our food was. The service was great with friendly bar staff.

6.1/10??? Glad we didn't take any notice of this score, and the main reason I'm writing this review is the score doesn't do this pub justice. We'll be going back!

Appears to have changed hands recently. In my opinion the food is not as good as it was the last time I visited in November. And please be more creative with the selection of ales. Doom Bar? not again? Can't drinkers have a better choice than Doom Bar in every pub in Southern England??

I am amazed at the negative reaction by some. I went there with Friends and Family on Saturday. We were all very pleased .The Food was great and the Service brilliant. The present owners have only been there for a few months and are making a very good job of it. Will Return Roger

Visited on Sunday for the second time. Roast was lovely last time, but this time I went for the Beef Curry...very nice! Rhubarb crumble for pudding was lovely as well, then washed it down with two pints of Butcombe Bitter!
Prices are about average, portions are quite large. The pub was busy, but we were served quickly and together (7 of us). Everyone was happy with their meal.

This used to be a lovely little pub, good service, good food and comfy surroundings. Great for Sunday dinner and popping in for lunch. Good value Sundays and reliable lunches. All this has changed, modern surroundings, poor service & poor food. Never again will I accept packet mash as there are no roasties. Microwaved, pre-prepared veg. Will not be back.

I have been to the Rose and Crown twice and have a mixed opinion about it. The food itself is excellent, well cooked and very large portions, and the beer is served well - regular beers include Abbey Ales Bellringer.

On the other hand the service leaves something to be desired. The service is very slow and staff are not always amazingly polite.

I remember visiting here years (decades) ago and being distinctly unimpressed. Having returned recently I am pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is still a little dated, but the staff are very friendly and a lot better than expected.

The food is standard pub fair and freshly cooked to perfection. Will have to go again soon.
