A proper beer-drinkers pub - it might do food as well, but who cares when you've got a choice of 12 real ales? Several Bateman's beers on, but also many from small local breweries (including a very nice pint of Winter's Mild). Thoroughly recommended.

I've been going in here for years now, mainly on evenings when Norwich are at home, and I'm pleased to report that on my latest visit (Wed 190908) nothing has changed - in other words the ale is still zinging (I had Oulton Nautilus and Wolf Coyote), you can still take your chips in, service is still excellent (even though the pub was packed) and overall it's still one of the top ale houses in Norwich which, as we all know, is no mean feat.

The Kings Arms still manages to be one of the best beer pubs in the city. Although it's now owned by Bateman's (so has to stock their beers), there is always a good selection of constantly changing guest beers. You'll find Adnams Bitter and Hopback Summer Lightming and a Wolf beer on all the time, Castlerock Harvest Pale is available much of the time (as it's so popular) but the other 4 or 5 beers could be from almost anywhere (sometimes local, often not). And in the evening you can bring in food from the nearby takeaway food outlets! It's one pub I try to visit at least once a week (not easy in a city with so much choice).

There's so many nice things about this pub - a great choice of good quality beers, a pleasant, cosy atmosphere (no jukebox or fruit machines) and excellent food. However, I have one major grumble - they can be over-zealous in clearing the pub at closing time. On a couple of occasions this winter they've used the extremely annoying tactic of opening the doors and letting the ice-cold air blown in from outside, in the hope it'll make you hurry your last pint. I find this very irritating - particularly if you're sat at the bar, just yards from the doors. A simple "drink up gentleman, please" would suffice. If anyone from the pub reads this review, please stop doing this - it's guaranteed to cheese off even loyal regulars!

Another excellent Norwich pub. Many hand pumped ales possibly 12. I am afraid no notes or phone reminders on this pub so I will definitely be back to review again. I know they had a TV with the well known Satellite broadcaster who provides sport. I believe good value food was also available.

A good selection of ales greeted us on entering this pub, and we selected a Tindalls beer as we don’t often see it. A lovely conservatory area looking out into an outside seating area.

Two years on from my last post. The excellent well kept ales do change regularly and are always spot on. It is still very friendly with always someone to talk to which is not that easy to come by in Norfolk. My earlier concerns of becoming a tied house and limiting choice were wrong. You will always find a Batemans beer on along side a wide choice from far and near. No machines or music which a god send. Sports are shown which adds to the atmospher. Michaela and Rik have done an excellent job in a pub I can not find fault with. A must for anyone.

This is a lovely traditional style pub with no fuit machines and no jukebox. It does, however, show Skysports, but never in an intrusive way. It always serves a good range of real ale kept in excellent condition. The staff are friendly and welcoming as well, and the pub has a nice cosy atmosphere about it, so what more could you wish for in a pub?

Possibly the nicest pub in Norwich. Wide range of SIBA real ales in excellent condition, which is constantly changing. Very pleasant bar staff and a great Sunday roast. Has a no smoking conservatory type bar. Can be noisy before a Norwich City home game. By all means try the Freemason's arms opposite for a smaller but different range of beers, also in good condition, but the pub is not as pleasant as the Kings Arms - so you'll be back. Bateman's deserve top marks for operating a tied house in this fashion.

Is This really a Batemans pub? Only 3 very good ones when I went and 10 others!Best black sheep this side of Masham.. This pub has everything you want in a proper pub excellent beer, great good value for money grub(try the cheese and bacon burgers worth the wait). No noisy juke boxes or chavs playing games!! It is a Norwich pub at its best.. If you venture over the road you will soon be back !!! I was thankfully .. Keep it up K.A

Around 12 beers always available including a mild and a porter or stout. Can get a bit full sometimes. Sadly has now become a Batemans pub so sometimes at least 5 beers are now from Batemans. 70% of the time it's Batemans mild which I like but I do like a change like it used to.
