Newly refurbed as a Barras house so thought I'd pop along tonight (Friday)
3 handpumps (Tetley, Bombadier and Marstons EPA) - ALL OFF
Poor training? Lazy staff? Who knows, but why go here when Boxmoor has other (better) boozers where you are can get what you want - poor

Large multi-area Spirit Group pub in a residential area of Boxmoor. Tidy, clean and well presented, seemed popular with most customers looking like locals. Good menu with a number of 2 for 7 offers. Juke box, fruit machines and a dartboard. No childrens certificate so they are confined to the small garden area. Four hand pumps with standard beers and Tetleys cask good value at 1.98. Cask Marque accredited.

One of the few pubs in Hemel that are not terrible. Nice old building just across from the moor.

Well visited this pub a few times recently and hasn't been too bad but recently it has been run at night time by a very different young staff who seem a bit confused. I was in last Thursday and asked about my favourite, Lizzie and was told she wasn't well, get well soon Lizzie. She is the best staff in a pub I have seen for a long time.I was also told that the manager was on holiday for a few weeks and have to say, it shows, the place is very dirty. The cigs butts in the car park and outside the front could be their way of hiding the fact that no glasses had been collected. An over turned table in the middle of the outside seating was a lovely feature. Maybe it should be in the Tate called "ashtray fallen off table", must be a big one. Funfare was good, old fashioned but great crowds.

I have just moved into Boxmoor Hemel and have to say, not a bad place to be, lots to see for the boys and girls, you lucky people. I have been to a few bars in the area and so far I think this place is the more pleasing. I had a bit of food which was very reasonably priced and very tasty, being a curious kind of guy, asked a few questions and was told the chef was Thai and it seems has a great reputation for his cooking.Had a good night last night too after my meal, had a game of pool with a local guy while watching the darts match. Will be going to see the guys on Thursday as they have a female artist singing at the pub.. looking forward to it... watch this space.....

Used to be a favorite of mine, pool table, dart board and a golf machine. Bar staff are abit slow and the old bloke behind the bar is always grumpy. Food is good value, they don't have sky though so no live sport which is a must for me.

I like this pub, but what's happened to the "No Smoking" area? Now, I know you can (for now) still smoke in pubs, but it seems that this pub has a "No No Smoking" policy.

If you are keen to avoid overly smoky pubs, then walk straight past the Blackbirds.

Nice pub to drink in for fri sats etc. Good crowd staff nice and helpful. A generally nice place pool table and gardens, parking but nothing amazing that would make me go back week after week. Maybe the southern sun which the dont do any more :(

Great part of a pub crawl on a sunday night. Fish, Blackbirds, Steamcoach, into town and then wherever!!!
The staff are always perky in here and helpful when they eventually get round to you! GOOD PUB!

Previous two managers from 1987 - 2003 really brought pub up to true potential but brewery very slow to appoint a permenant landlord, do maintenance and took over 5weeks to restore real ales. Looking forward to returning when landlord appointed meanwhile trade is lower quality.
