please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub looks inviting from the outside. Get inside and it's like stepping back to the late 70's. Artex on the walls and fake skinny beams!!! I tried the Triple F 'Moondance' (what a marvellous night for a Moondance....there's a song there somewhere), it was in reasonable condition. Wouldn't visit again though.

only stopped for Sunday lunch - beer was good, food was good (£11) for a risotto is expensive.

But welcome was good and the puddings at £5 each were good value.

Would be back.

Very expensive very average beer, no atmosphere, and owen mattia has only ever submitted 2 reviews, both of this pub, and only 3 minutes apart!, I'd say drive up the hill to Milbury's instead of stopping here

Very expensive beer. The major problem was the Sunday "roast", at 11 one expects a certain qaulity, but the roast porkt consisted of wafer thin reheated slices of "pork" in a tasteless gravy. Very poor indeed and I would avoid this pub for food.

Went in this pub after visiting Hinton Ampner House, as it's conveniently about 100 yards from the entrance to the house. Very quiet when we went in on a Wednesday afternoon, but the barmaid was polite enough. Had 4 hand pumps on serving a range of locally brewed Hinton beers, Hinton Crest, Hinton Sportsman, Hintons Olde, and I can't remember the fourth! I plumped for the Crest which went down well. More of a restaurant than a pub, with all the tables decked out for eating rather than quaffing, but there are a row of seats at the bar if you want to run the gauntlet of 'nicking' a locals' seat, and there is a large seating area outside at the back. Would like to come back here when a bit busier to sample a better atmosphere, but will definately come again.

Not interested in the food, but it was a gorgeous afternoon, not a cloud in the sky and as for the beer. The Hedgerow (Bowmans) was probably the best beer I've tasted all year.

Pretty much a perfect pub. A large coach party were in but the staff made sure we were sat down for food within half an hour. Time to sample the nice locally brewed ales, all under 5%, and one of them with an elderflower flavour that really hit the spot on a warm day. Food exceeded expectations: the steaks, while expensive, were as good as you get, and accompaniments top notch. A great english pub 10/10

Have been there twice now and both times have had fantastic meals. The staff are friendly and service good. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Can only concur with the comments about the background music. Starting to become expensive and it may have been bad luck that the beer, while acceptable, did not sparkle on my last visit.

Have been going to the hinton regularly for 2 years now-jusy found this site!! The landlord Roger and his wife Anne are really friendly, as are all the staff. The beer is great, wine list extensive, and the food (new chef Apr 2008) is amazing. Portion sizes more than adequate, with the specials board having some great locally sources game and fish dishes. Wouldn't hesitate to give 10/10.

Almost every aspect of this pub was excellent, the food, which arrived in minutes despite being so busy, the atmosphere, the staff who were so warm and friendly, the beer, but why oh why have background music? Apart from that one minor point can strongly recommend this pub.

Visited this pub with my wife and 2 children and it was all we expected. Great atmosphere, excellent menu with a great variety to suit all tastes, the pork and apple curry was a splendid choice!! Will definately recommend to our friends and will most certainly be visiting again.
