The ale quality was a bit better this time. It is probably one of your best bets for a decent pint in Accy.

Excellent pub with a warm welcome, friendly service and a selection of well-kept ales. Cosy atmosphere. Enjoyed a superb buffet in the airy function room. 10/10.

A brisk walk from town up a slight incline brings me to the Peel Park Hotel, pub number 2 on my list and another one from the GBG.

Now this is a proper pub and its right next to the site of Accrington Stanley's original ground, yes you guessed it Peel Park!

A grand entrance brings you towards the small bar that crams in as many pumps as it can not leaving any space left. There are 6 hand pumps offering 6 different ales, even though the cask Tetley is tempting I start off with a pint of Elland Breweries White Prussian @ 3.9%. A lively pint for the barmaid to pour but it settles down nicely and was good . My second pint was Bank Top’s Flat Cap @ 4.0% again another very good pint.

There are 3 separate drinking areas and another room with a pool table in. Most of the walls are adorned with sporting pictures , these are predominantly Football and Cricket related. Above the bar is a collection of German Steins and hiding behind one of the CCTV cameras is a gollywog, I wonder how many people spot this?

I stayed for over an hour before moving on. The pub was packed with locals with more arriving by the minute.

Cracking ale, lovely building, lots of regulars....no wonder this pub survives and makes it into the GBG….9/10 for me.

What a great place. Went on a sunny Saturday evening and sat in the beer garden but the inside is nice and cosy. Good view of the old Accrington ground and the surrounding country is nice. Lots of great old pics of ground and I gather some fans still drink here before home games which is a nice touch. Dare say the new ground is on a trading estate!
Good selection of beers, well kept and staff and locals very friendly, despite some previous comments.

Pretty much as last time - reasonable pint though not exceptional in a pleasant proper pub with a Stanley memorabilia and Beatle's Sgt Pepper gold disc adorning the walls.. Can see how some may think it a bit 'League of Gentlemen' but you get that in a lot of places.

We went to see a bit of football history - the original Accrington Stanley ground is directly opposite, complete with red brick changing room block (?) with stone plaque recording that it was built by the supporters'club in 1937. The playing surface is marked out for football, albeit without goalposts, and it is clear to see how it was. However, not possible to access the ground directly from this side.

The pub itself has some old photographs of the ground during a match, filled with supporters around the touchlines. A good range of ales, well-kept and served by friendly staff. Clearly very much modernised since the days when it would be filled with supporters before and after the match, but well worth a visit.

Didn't get the same "locals only" feeling as the last reviewer at all. Everyone in the pub, staff and locals, were friendly and welcoming. Some Bradford City fans down for the match were made welcome too. Good selection of beers as well, including one brewed for the pub and named in honour of the Accrington Pals. Best pub in town, in my view.

A "local pub for local people". Paid a visit in June 2012...It was like walking on to the set of "The League of Gentlemen". Nobody actually said this pub is for local people only, but I did wonder if I might have been wearing something ridiculously vile as all the "regulars" stopped and stared - and whispered and sniggered. Maybe it was after all my walking stick and the fact that I had parked my mobility scooter in the car park (well there was nowhere else to park it). While I was still parking it a man in a van drove up and sneered "taking up a bit of room there aren't you" - no doubt upset that he had to park alongside me and walk an extra two yards to the pub.
A bunch of old crones sniggered and then when silent as I limped my way to the front door. When I got inside they were shoulder to shoulder at the small bar and noone made any attempt to move to let me through even though it was obvious I was having trouble getting to the bar.
So, I turned and left..... Such a shame. I have been to the pub once before and there was hardly anyone in - and the pint of Tenacious Ted I had was great.
I will go again - but I will avoid Friday - which is clearly the day for the locals to have their local pub to themselves.

I was expecting more of this place for some reason and although it was okay and the pint of Hop Star Pretty Witch was nice it struck me as being no more than average alehouse. Still somewhere to visit at least once due to the historical links with the Stanley.

Lovely pub and warm welcome. Locals discussing matters of the day including Mrs Thatcher, so as well I'd only had a pint!

Nice stuff on the walls, much of which is football and cricket based. Lovely pint of Tetley's. About four other hand pumps on the go, but living in London means I don't see my old favourite, so it was a no brainer.

Would definitely recommend.

Visited yesterday 07.03.09. Excellent pub and beer, even got a take out of the landladies chocolate brownies for my 12 year old to take to the Accies match.

Busy, spotless pub with 5 or 6 Real Ales on Tap just off Alice Street.
Quz nights Thursdays and Beer Festival last week in November when the choice of Ales doubles.

top pub- standing next to the old accrinton stanley football ground (now playing field)this is a must for the sporting "anorak". Lots of memorabilia covering all sports and more important a real friendly pub. 5 real ales + usual tetleys guiness etc good value bar snacks and a pleasant atmosphere. Found it hard to drag myself away!!!.

At the top of a long, long street. Right next to Stanleys old ground with lots of old photos of it. 6 beers, usually with a mild and only one bitter above 4.5%
David bought it 3 years ago when it was boarded up. He was really friendly.
