Warm welcome from the barman on entering. Great pint of Wadworth’s Swordfish beer served at a perfect temperature. Very acceptable lunch of Wiltshire ham eggs & chips and beef pie in a 6X gravy with efficient and friendly service at a value-for-money price. (Why do so many places serve hugely bouffant pastry lids that fly all over the place, rather than short-crust pasty which is so much easier to eat?) Nice and quiet; pleasant murmur of chat. Toasty log-burner. Clean toilets. Splendid view across the river Cherwell (“char-well”) to the water meadows beyond. On the terrace, the fictional Inspector Morse shared a drink with Lewis in The Remorseful Day episode as the sun set.

A lovely pub, with wonderful views down to the river. It's my local, and I generally find the staff friendly and efficient. It's a good old fashioned pub where you can have a good chat and toss the odd crisp to the passing ducks, who seem to like them!

Good atmosphere (no music, hooray), with a fine range of Wadsworths beer, not just the usual 6X. Food OK, but pricey for what it is -- I suppose given the superb location, they don't have to try very hard, so they don't.

Overpriced and quite average beer but it's in such a fantastic spot that you can't beat it on a summers day.

Fantastic riverside pub - certainly the best location in the Oxford area. It really feels like you're in the middle of the countryside rather than in a suburb of Oxford. There is a terrace overlooking the river with lots of seats and a gazebo, then there's a large area of grass before the river itself. There are some seats on this and it's a great area for children to play. In the summer punts frequently pass and sometimes tie up, all adding to the atmosphere. Beer is good and there's a large car park.

Wow. I've lived in the UK 5.5 years and haven't been treated as poorly, and for no good reason, as I was today at the Vicky Arms. Although the quality of the food was very good the poor table service detracted from it so that I'm unable to ever considering returning nor referring anyone else to it. And, while the Wadsworth and Marston beers were well-kept, the miserable, arrogant bastard who calls himself the owner who foisted his bad attitude upon me and anyone else within earshot made we wish I'd never stumbled upon this place. The few points I give it are simply for the quality of the products and nothing more.
