Now has a small smoking area to the rear of building; on our recent visits I had pints of Ringwood Forty-niner [acceptable] & Titanic Iceberg [refreshing pint].

Nice enough 'Spoons to pop in to for a breakfast before heading off to a music festival at Catton Hall up the road. Looked like they had quite a few good beers on. As it was 8am I decided against them and contented myself with a cuppa and a fry-up instead. Maybe next time though as Lichfield looks like a place I might return to.

Have been to this Wetherspoons a few times now, and it is my favourite of the two in town. The interior has been done up plushly, with the main drawback being a huge empty area around the bar, meaning less tables than expected – so it can be hard to find an empty one. There are 10 handpumps on the bar, meaning about 4 or 5 guest ales usually. On my latest visit I had a pint of Goffs Lancer. Despite being more central than the Gatehouse, food prices are cheaper (Sunday lunch £6.49). I was going to order my usual Mexican Burger, but noticed some “mangers specials” of curries for £2.99 – so I ordered the Sweet Potato curry. Unfortunately O forgot to specify, so it came with chips instead of rice ! Finally, a word of warning, the place does tend to get crowded with families with small children, though my latest visit was OK.

6/10 – better than the average Spoons.

Spacious and well run Wetherspoons, with a good range of well kept ales. Only drawback is the lack of a smoking area.

The address for this pub is 16/18 Tamworth Street not as shown above.
Not bad for a JDW with guest ales @ 1.99 a pint

Not a bad place. Certainly better than average JDW pub. Decent ales.

A nice well rounded pub with a mix of friendly and average staff. The clientele are mixed as other reviews have stated and yes though some chav types do appear they are nothing to be worried about and the pub is mostly full of 20 - 40 somethings having a nice laugh. The regulars are mostly friendly old boys with their nose in a pint. I regularly go because the price is low and the drink selection is good. In the daytime it is often full of families. Nice decoration esp for a wetherspoon.

Not quite the pub it was. The beer selection and sometimes availability is not what it was. Quality has also declined. It won't take a lot to get it back but the pub seems to be suffering a slow decline.

Another enjoyable visit to The Acorn. I always make the effort to go when I'm in Lichfield and this time I had the bonus of the beer festival. They had a good selection on I personally enjoyed a pint of Spinning Dog Brass in Pocket (nice name) and Cains Fine Raisin Beer. Both very good. It was a saturday early afternoon and it was busy, could have done with a few more staff on as the wait at the bar was quite a long one. It didnt help that my good friends the coffee drinkers were out in force, I now realise why theres only one coffee shop in Lichfield because they all go to the pub to have their coffee fix. Otherwise nice pub, nice beer, nice atmosphere.

I think we all know what to expect from a SPOONS place; cheap beer but varied, food, understaffed, rammed, mixed clientele and so forth.

As Spoons go, this is fine, but you have to catch it at the right time. whereas the SPOON in Wolverhampton seems to be a permanent hole. Yes, you get some chavs in, but i dont think they are as bad as some of the vacuous people that occupy some of the other 'bars' in the town

Beer has always been varied on the handpull front. I cant say i have had a bad pint as a result of the place, just the beer itself was not to my liking.

There are too few staff, but those i have encountered have always been friendly, but it is difficult for them when the place is rammed. The food has always been fine, basic stuff.

I can back up previous comments about the ale being in good condition I had a great pint of Dark Star Best Bitter. It seems that the famous/imfamous 99p IPA has not affected the quality of the other ales. This is an old school wetherspoons in terms of decor but clean and comfatable none the less. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Simple and sweet, can't go wrong with a visit.

Good selection of beers and those tried were well kept. Staff friendly and tables cleared and cleaned regularly. Visited on a Friday night and there was a good mix of people and a relaxed atmosphere.

Excellent choice of real ale in v good condition. Attentive, polite staff.

Called in before going to the beer festival as I wanted a good breakfast, and it was a good breakfast too. The toast was served on two separate plates, not dumped on top of the beans like some Wetherspoons served it, or left for two to try and spread butter and jam on one plate. The beer was varied and excellent too.

Typical friendly Spoons but Pedigree was unusually poor.

cheap and nice food LOL!

Its alright - as soul-destroying Wetherspoon pubs go. Its full of tramps and pirates most of the time but the atmosphere is full of pie-eyed joy and the bar staff do a good job. The beer taste alright for 1.84 a pint.

I find myself in agreement with other reviewers. Huge Wetherspoon's outlet, cheap beer of good quality but no soul. Service slow to a snails pace and it does get ridiculously busy.

On Bank Holiday Monday, early afternoon, I sat in a non smoking area to be surrounded by smokers. On complaining to management three times, nothing was done. I was also verbally abused by the smokers sitting in the non smoking area. Roll on smoking ban next summer!!!

Has to be amongst the worst pubs in Lichfield. Ok, so it's cheap... but with the slowest service & rarely any more than a couple of sloths behind the bar you'd be better off paying a little more to actually get what you went in for..... unless you're a burberry clad chav that's been refused everywhere else.
Flea - 21 Apr 2006 20:47
A typical, poncy Wetherspoons plastic pub.... Cheap beer, full of yobs after around 8pm. Some good guest beers though, and can be o.k. for a lunchtime drink.
