The last several times I have visited Lancaster over the last 18 months or so the Green Ayre has been closed and boarded up with the message that it is "Closed for refurbishment". When I passed by a few weeks ago it was up for sale as one of Wetherspoons' recent disposals.

Called in for a quick pint while waiting for a bus, the bus station being very close. If anything, the place seemed rather better than I remembered it, and is certainly an above-average Wetherspoons. I had a pint of Hawkshead Drystone Stout which was in very good condition and a bargain at £2.15. At 18.00 there were several tables of women enjoying a drink after shopping, which was good to see.

Nice enough Wetherspoon's with the usual cheap beer and formulaic layout. On Tuesday evening most of the handpump clips were labelled "coming soon" as a beer festival was starting the next day. On the Wednesday the beer I really fancied - a 6.0% ABR Imperial Russian Stout - was still not on. I did have a decent pint each time, which would suggest that the pub is one of the better W'spoon's for beer quality.

very nice clean and tidy and airy Lloyds bar with a couple of extra ales added to the normal option of abbot or abbot, the pint of lancaster blonde(2.05)was very nice and the barmaid was friendly, other Lloyds could take a leaf out this places book!7/10

This is a Lloyd's Bar style Wetherspoon's, which means dimmer 'club' style lighting and music playing at moderate to loud volume. Despite this, I thought it not bad. There were some decent ales and ciders on hand-pump (eg Addlestones Cloudy Cider) and on two separate visits last week all the drinks I had tasted very good. Staff were friendly and helpful.

11am..... Excellent value breakfast but do people need to drink bottles of wine at this time of day.... Almost made me choke on my sausages...

A great place to eat or drink, or whatever you decide to do in your local, went in during a apparently busy day, floor was clean, food came out in less than 10 minutes, Staff were polite and helpful.
If this is what theyre like when theyre busy, it must be amazing when quiet

Now a Lloyd's bar.Much improved, but still the regulars one would associate with the

Poor, usual wetherspoons staff shortages, advertise real ale but only a couple available,ie Pegigree, Abbot, many coming soon, yeh so's christmas! Even the bland food poor, obviously only interested in sellling lager to students. very disappointing

Things seem to have change since the last posting. A recent visit saw a local beer festival in place. Hard working and polite staff.

A pretty good Whetherspoons/Lloyds. Though what that actually translates as in 2006/07 is 'a bit better than barely adequate'.
On a positive note, the food was the best I've ever had in Wevvies, all correct and nicely cooked (alright fried/microwaved). The interior is pretty clean and presentable, and the bogs were in good nick.
However, the first beer (from a decnt range) I tried to order was off and I got the usual Whetherspoons rubbish of the staff not taking any notice of the fact they're selling damaged goods; leaving the clip of the offender on display until pressured to turn it round by us.
A stupid schoolboy error which spoils what would have been a fairly postive review.
Tim Martin really needs to get out into his estate and pay some unannounced visits to see the real story (see my other Whetherspoons reviews!!) - unless he condones this type of service? No wonder these places are sliding downhill, I (and many of my friends) would much rather pay the 50-75p premium for a quality pint served by someone who knows and cares about what they're doing. So it figures that people who go to *most* of these places on a regular basis...don't.
You get what you pay for.

Right down the bottom of the high street this pub is handy for bus spotters. Its a very nice wetherspoons, as its near the town centre its busy and lively, with plenty of students. Cheap drinks, good food, all in all a good day out!
