The Nutley Hall, Reigate

Friday 25th Jan 2013 - End of an era for a very long-established true local pub, and one of the few I've ever seen where people of all ages and backgrounds mixed without feeling they were out of place. Often wished I lived a bit closer as met some great people over the last couple of years.

Forget everything about oft-repeated local rumours that have floated around other local pubs, and so-called "news" sources.

As of time of writing, and to best of my knowledge and belief, the pub is OPEN, and landlord John is STILL THERE with the same "no ID no alcohol" policy as before.

It was one of the focal points of the Nutley Lane Street Party and used by the organisers to plan the event, which over the vast majority of the day, despite both the pub and that section of the lane being chock full of people passed without incident. Apparently there was an incident in the early evening which I missed during a 10-15 minute visit elsewhere, totally over and done with by my return.

The party was a great success, I met up with an ex-colleague I'd not seen for years, newer friends I'd made at the pub, and met and chatted with people not seen before.

It would be a tragedy to lose such great little local pub. Long may it continue.

Decent friendly pub, popular with all ages (don't think it's far off being able to use the phrase from 18 to 80 lol) and despite seeming very popular with the young clubbing brigade on a Friday and Saturday doesn't need bouncers at the door to prevent trouble, something that inspires a sense of confidence in your own personal safety.

Very well kept "Sussex" and "Badger" on the pumps very nearly all the time, often another more seasonal or otherwise temporary brew or two (Fursty Ferret at time of writing I believe). Lager (HB), cider (Stowford Press) and Guinness also on tap as well as various bottled drinks of all description.

It is nice to go into a pub in Reigate and know the bitters are well kept and "safe" rather than several other pubs where it's "Lager Lager Lager!"

It would be a tragedy if this historic long standing pub (which amongst other things has its own cricket club) were to be replaced by flats as per the now sadly approved planning application. There is some silver lining in the range of conditions, particularly regarding the cave access (not sure the brewery or architects thought of that originally), and I also understand the brewery have agreed to renew the lease if the landlord wants to in January, so the fight to keep the pub is not lost yet.
