Sofas, armchairs and CREAM carpet! Only one guest ale (which wasn't ready for tonight's re-opening), Everads' standards and fewer lagers. Wide selection of (pricey) wine.

What will the regulars make of this incarnation???

Rate 7 for brightening the old place up and offering fair trade coffee but fear it will prove too expensive for this part of town.

New licensee over summer holiday (claims to have another pub in Loughborough)

Selection of real ales has improved - general two or three guest beers as well as Everards - and well kept, though mostly only on for a week so how much damage can they do in that time?

Plus point - they've out most of the tat but have also taken away some of the photos and left bare walls with picture lights.

Now very brightly lit and being turned into a "London Boozer" (Licensee's description!) Why a London Boozer???

It just gets worse - there's so much clutter. Do we really need 'steaming' water in the fake water tap and giant butterflies.

It has one random guest beer otherwise it's just Everard's and the usual Guinness and lagers.

Friendliness of staff? Very variable.

Yes, it is handy for the university - if the Criterion or Swan & Rushes were as close the Marquis wouldn't stand a chance. Perhaps I'll transfer to DMU.
