O'Neills, Blackheath

This used to be the Best Pub in London up to a few years ago but its a shadow of its former self. Is it not time to change its image and move away from the O'Neill's Thing. I certainly do not blame the staff as they can only do as directed but Bass or whoever owns it have made their money here and therefore have neglected it for a few years now. I seldom go there now as I can never get the feeling I used to get in the good old days of '96-2003...Im an old romantic I guess!

This is a decent little pub and at least they smile unlike All Bar One up the road. I was in here during the World Cup and the doormen from Barracuda Bar across the road came in and scared the sxxx out of a few chavs who were playing on the fact that it was all female bar staff......it was worth the visit to see that alone...top marks to the doormen for this "neighbourly" approach!

The Barracuda Bar, Bishopsgate

Although I am certainly not a big fan of huge branded Pubs......there is something endearing about this monster in the city. I watched the Champions league final there in May and because it was fun I returned for a few World Cup matches....one with 500 Brazilians...the other the fateful England v Portugal match. Service at the bar was really snappy and good and there were even pretty girls running the floor with trays of drinks. Down side was it was bloody hot in there. I've since been back a few times and although I work a good mile away...Id say this is different but good alternative to some of the stuffy, trendy Pubs who have nothing going for them in the City. Food ,although simple, is good and served quickly with a smile and choice of beers is varied, Brahma, Castle, VB, Peroni. 23 TV screens....overall a damn good place just avoid the hot weather!
