The Royal Oak, Holmbury St Mary

In the good old days (previous landlord), I used to drive down from the lab during my lunch break, and quickly browse through my New Scientist while witing for the food to arrive. These days, if I was so ill-advised to go back to this pub, I would have to bring War and Peace with me. The landlord reminds me a little of Basil Fawlty...only the rude bits, not the funny bits. In fact, from his behaviour you wonder whether he banged his head on a moose trophy sometime. The waitress will pay more attention to the dog than to you. If you enjoy being treated like sht while waiting 45 minutes for your meal, that's the pub for you. If not, the Kings Head is just 2 min down the road.
