The Unicorn, Ambleside

Arrived at 1.52 pm to be told bluntly by the barmand that no food was available (despite being advertised until 2 pm). Left quickly and went to the Golden Rule (best pub in Ambleside).

Great pub. Real fire/stove, good beer, friendly staff.

Buck Hotel, Richmond

Just spent a week on holiday in Reeth and received a warm welcome in the Buck. Good staff, good selection of beer and the food was better than your average pub food - I had partridge, pigeon and venison during the week - all tasty. Only negative was the bad-tempered Man Utd fans who gave us evils during the football on tv - not very friendly. Highly recommended pub.
