The Gallery, Pimlico

I sought legal advice against this pub last June, after the bar manager threw my boyfriend and me out for quietly holding hands under our table and kissing occasionally. This was on a quiet Thursday evening at about 9pm. I had been a regular there for several years and had always thought of The Gallery as a gay-friendly pub, hence I was amazed by such a reaction.

Solicitors and Stonewall advised me that my case wasn't strong enough to take to court without witnesses to give evidence, and I would lose money if I tried anything more than a formal complaint. When I did complain in writing, the brewery concerned advised me that it was an issue between me and the manager who had evicted us in the first place. I therefore met brick walls at every turn.

It was the worst experience I have ever had, and I would rather remain teetotal for the rest of my life rather than drink there again. My local theatre group, who used to drink there, have found another drinking spot since then too.
