Royal Oak, New Ash Green

Dreadful pub. Landlady has the charm of a scopion. With a group of people who were all drinking ale and wine, and I asked if I could have a cup of coffee and got the reply "what do you think this is, if you want coffee go to a cafe". And then proceed to lecture me on soft drinkers (I said I can't see the problem as she is charging nearly 3 for a pint of orange juice and my friend had just spent 32 on a round of drinks.) She wasn't joking either - I explained that as I could see the coffee menu I presumed it wasn't out of the question. For our sins we had to visit here for a few times and each time it got worse. The music got louder and more aggresive and the drinkers obviously very young - underage and out to get drunk! Fights yes, between two girls in loo. We now avoid the place as it has a repution again for gypsies and drugs.

The Nightingale, Worcester

Umm a strange one, stopped for lunch a few months ago - food okay we ate from the quick lunch menu. Didn't drink alcohol both had soft drinks. The problem was that it was a fairly bright sunny day and at 1.30 in the afternoon we couldn't see to read the menu's as the place was so badly lit. I hate to think what it would be like on a winters evening - we said if we come again we would bring our own candles!
Drove past a few days later to see that the place was closed - maybe they were having electricity installed!

Excellent carvery. Choice of pork, beef and turkey. Lovely fresh vegetables - they don't keep large amounts hanging around to go limp and dry. Eaten Fish and chips and the faggots here too, all good value. Never got to desserts as too full after main course.

Most importantly the beers are good too! Doesn't seem to be the place to spend the evening over a quiet pint, though there is a bar just for drinking to the left of the front door. Mainly people go here for a meal and I can't argue with that. At peak times booking is advisable.

Staff welcoming too.
