Profile information

Born in the North but exiled in Brum for almost 40 years. Have been drinking in the Harborne district for the same length of time! My local since 1988 has been the White Horse. Before that it was The Plough (when it was a REAL pub)and in the dim and distant past,The King's Arms. My other half and I spend a lot of time in St Ives, Cornwall, where we have a small flat. When we are down there our regular pub is the wonderful Castle Inn on Fore Street. Every day there is a mini beerfest as the range of ales on sale changes daily. As a CAMRA member for more than thirty years, this is as close to heaven as it gets!

The Lord Clifden, Birmingham

Had a quick one in here on Saturday as part of a Jewellery Quarter crawl. Packed to the gunwhales, but as always a good experience.

The Church Inn, Hockley

Lively and pleasant enough with a youngish clientele. Plenty of ales on in good condition. Must have had a few as I don't remember leaving, but I know it was late! Worth including on a Jewellery Quarter crawl.

The Brown Lion, Birmingham

Went in here with friends last Saturday night because someone we knew was the live music act for the evening. It was heaving when we went in, but thinned out considerably towards about 10.00pm. Only one real ale being served, Purity Ubu, but service was polite and efficient. Strange sort of place: modern, minimalist décor, more of a wine bar type place than a real pub. However, that said, it's ok for a quick couple.
