The Five Bells, Stanbridge

Beautiful quaint old cosy pub set on a quiet road. The main bar area is set in the original part of the building and is crammed with rustic beams (some of which are a bit low, so mind your head!), old floorboards and usually a few old locals as well - many of whom bring their dogs. However, there's a nice atmosphere, you won't feel unwelcome.

This pub was refurbished a couple of years back, and they have a done a good job with the decor, as it has a slightly contemporary feel to it. The restaurant is also very nice and whilst the food is on the expensive side (starters are on average 5.00, mains 12), the quality is usually very good and the service has been great every time I've eaten here. The drinks are also pretty pricey, but if you like the surroundings, it's worth it - I hate pubs full of noisy youngsters and you certainly won't find any here!

The Travellers Rest, Dunstable

Poor food, so don't eat here! Probably cooked by teenagers judging by the standard - in microwaves! However, there's a good range of drinks priced very reasonably and the decor is very nice. Cosy in the winter, especially when the fire is going. Small garden at the front with views of the downs, but as this pub is situated on a busy junction, probably not the most relaxing location to enjoy a pint.

The Three Locks, Stoke Hammond

Beautifully refurbed and great location on the canal, but I think the food could be better. Having eaten here a few times in the last 6 months, I have decided not to bother again! Great for a drink though.
