The Three Horseshoes, Madingley

Pretentious and vastly overpriced; may be ok for food but to be avoided if going for a drink (which is surely what a pub is supposed to be for)

The Black Horse, Dry Drayton

A delightful exterior and the fact that this pub had reopened after an extended period of closure tempted us to go for a drink on a Saturday evening. From the start it proved to be a let-down. A pint of Adnams bitter and a SMALL glass of white wine coming to 7.85 led me to query whether I had been over-charged, or perhaps mistakenly charged for a large glass of wine. Although I had quietly asked the guy who had served me, two members of staff got involved and embarrassed me in front of other customers.
As there were no available seats in the bar area and were quite tired, I asked a member of staff if we could sit at a small table roughly set for food and were told that we could not, yet two much younger people who appeared to be locals sat there with pints and no food from shortly afterwards until we left.
We found the Black Horse unwelcoming and overpriced, and would recommend those other than locals to give it a wide berth.

Eraina Taverna, Cambridge

The Eraina certainly isn't a pub, but rather a delightful little Greek taverna, serving a wide range of Greek and other Mediterranean dishes in sizeable portions and at very reasonable prices. It deserves to be busier than it often actually is. I always finish my meal there with a glass of Benedictine! We have been visiting the Eraina since my student days 35 years ago and I hope it sees me out! The rating below is for the quality of the RESTAURANT.
