The White Horse, Parsons Green

On my last trip to London at the end of February, I ventured by way of the tube and my long cane, to The White Horse of Parsons Green. This is the third time that I have visited this excellent establishment. It is an easy place for a blind person to find, but is also is a very welcoming and friendly venue. As has been commented before the food is of a restaurant standard and my chicken and chestnuts in a cider sauce with potato dauphinoise and kale was very enjoyable. My pale beer from the Acorn brewery accompanied this dish well. This is the only pub I'm aware of that recommends beers to go with the food. On my previous visits I have also tried Bishop's Farewell and Purity Mad Goose. I must also put a word in for the staff who are all very helpful and accomodating, especially the manager Rob who uses my first name. I will be going down to London in late March for the demonstration and Scotland game so you can all buy me a pint that weekend.

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

After a grueling but pleasurable trawl through the racks of CD's at Fopp Records, we headed for some lunch at the Bell Inn. The last time I had been in this pub was around four years ago during a beer festival. Although the atmosphere was different this time, due to the fact that it was lunch time and the place was populated with older ladies lunching, as opposed to the raucous beer festival crowd, nether the less I am glad that I returned to this venue. The bar staff were very helpful in recommending beers and food. I went for the Rock bitter and my friend had the mild. If you read my other Nottingham review, there is a pattern emerging. There were plenty of excellent sausage options on the menu but in reality these didn�t all materialise because there were problems with the supplier, however, the bangers that we did have were excellent. If you are in Nottingham town centre during the week you really should head for this fine pub. Even as a blind person I was able to tell that the toilets were spot on.

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

After a long hot day attending non league football in Leicestershire, it was a pleasure to experience the joys of the Vat and Fiddle. I was told that this was a good pub and indeed the information was correct. I headed straight for a pint of Harvest Pale which I quickly followed up with another. It was easy to see why this beer won a CAMRA award in 2007. A quality taste with beer in excellent condition. My friend was drinking the mild which was equally good. Our only problem was that we had to move on for food, however, the pub did have an excellent brochure telling us about other Castle Rock establishments. The barman was also very helpful in this regard and gave us directions to the Keans Head. I will return to the Vat on my next visit to Nottingham because it is one of those places that, when you walk in the door, makes you want to spend time there.
