What a shame....
This was my favourite pub in the whole world.
Went in today to find dirty glasses, dirty mirrors, miserable member of staff who took 5 minutes even to appear. Food had finished at 2pm (?!).
I love the pub for its olde worlde charm, but standards are standards, and they have seriously slipped.

Heron Inn, Malpas

Used to go here with my Grandparents when I was a child and yesterday a few of us went for a meal and booked a table. It was the first visit in a very long time and it has to be said it will be a long time before we go to eat there again.
Service was slow, and when trying to order another drink with our food, we were told the waiter wasn't allowed to bring drink to our table and we would have to go the bar ourselves! (?)
Never in a restaurant have I ever had this said before.
The food took a long time, dried up lamb cutlets on cold mash, and cold plates! dried up tasteless lasagne with melted cheddar on the top (it wasn't even layered, just a mess), chewy lamb chops and all salad drenched in sour oily dressing, so that you couldn't taste the salad.
It is a shame when somewhere describes itself as fresh, homemade food that the food was of poor standard on a Saturday evening, surely a time that should be peak?
Waiter's attempts to be friendly and funny came across as rude and sarcastic.
I just feel sorry for my mother who paid for it all, hoping to treat her family.
Lovely view, so will go for a drink only next time.
