The Pointer Inn, Newchurch

We found this pub last week when we were on holiday for a week on the Isle of Wight. I had been looking for real ale pubs and this one came up. We went first at lunch time, had a couple of pints of Fullers London and first class bar sandwiches. I had a triple mixed crab sandwich which was superb, top quality ingredients and a full lunch it itself. My wife had a warm bacon and brie baguette which was as good as the crab. There is a small friendly bar and garden and a restaurant adjoining. It is a proper local bar not an add-on to an eating establishment which we have found depressingly common in tourist areas these days.

We went again one evening and I had a serving of boeuf bourguignon with crusty bread as a bar snack. This was as good as the crab, served with four triangles of fried bread to soak up the perfect gravy.

This is a seriously good pub with well kept beer, top class food and a very pleasant atmosphere. Anyone would be chuffed to have this as their local. We wish it was ours!

Regards
