The Kings Arms, London Bridge

Love it. Genuine effort now made on all counts since being taken over. Beer very good (although the Ruddles County seems to be unavailable too frequently), food great, service attentive and everything generally reflective of a well run pub. Has it's own genuine character. Just terrific.

The Bunch of Grapes, London Bridge

Oh Youngs! What have you done!!??? This was a terrific, well run boozer - whether for a couple after work before the train, or a more determined effort. Whilst the odd "sprucing up" is a must, even for spot-on watering holes as this was, this one has gone horribly wrong. Sterile, characterless and clumsy (although now has one of the better outdoor drinking areas). Worst of all, it seems the landlord who ran a brilliant ship there has (been?)moved on and consequently waiting times (which were minimal, even at the busiest of times) have increased 3-fold. aaagh!

Spice Island, Rotherhithe

Definitely heading the right way in recent months. Had a fairly pointless refurb but then more recently has removed all but one of the TV's, improved the calibre (as opposed to numbers) of barstaff meaning less of the endless queueing and have seemingly adopted a low tolerance policy on the armies of chavs that used to descend on the place regularly. Definitely on the up and worth a visit, particularly on a nice day where the you get the sun pretty much all day and a cracking riverside spot.
