The Nascot Arms, Watford

In winter this pub raises passive smoking to a new level! When the doors and windows are open it becomes bearable but otherwise... carcinoma city! It could be so great - it's really a shame. A typical local, with good beer and a consistent customer-base. Redecorate, replace the carpets and furnishings and separate the chain-smokers from those who don't want to die quite so young (or unpleasantly)and there'd be an irrestible little gem here.

The Horns, Watford

OK for reasonable pub food and a quiet drink during the day, The Horn comes alive in the evening and at weekends. Not the cheapest place to drink but efficient (and attractive) staff make buying drinks relatively painless. A wide variety of musical styles regularly on show, from enthusiastic and/or gifted amateurs to well-known professionals and tribute bands, virtually every night of the week. Very seldom any trouble from the progeny of "cousins who marry". If you're new in town or just like music, give it a whirl.
