Alum Ale House, South Shields

Canny little pub. Part of the 'golden 3' in shields. The others being the maltings and the steamboat, both listed on here. Good choice of beers, lovely location on the banks of the tyne. Friendly staff. Was recently closed for financial reasons, I believe, but now reopened and still a little cracker.8/10

The Maltings, South Shields

Really good selection of beers and ciders, staff have always been friendly when I have visited and on every occasion have given me and anyone I have been with tastes of anything if I/we weren't sure what we fancied. Live music on regularly. Serves Thai food of which I haven't tried because I prefer a good sup instead.8/10

The Steamboat, South Shields

Superb pub. Great choice of beers (real ales) and usual lagers. Basic choice of food but this is a drinking place! if you want something to eat go to near by ocean road for a smashing curry.
The staff are always very friendly the pubs visitors always seem to be canny and occasionally very amusing. Excellent jukebox, plenty of interesting and weird stuff to look at on the walls and ceiling (flag collection).9/10.
