Swann Inn, Newtown

Having always been happy with the food and service at the Swan, we decided to take an important guest tonight. We had great expectations (8th visit since reopening) but the service tonight disappointed and rouined the whole evening.

This was NOT due to the chef or kitchen staff, who I must applaud on their culinary skills. The food was perfectly presented as per the menu and quality was excellent, but if you are looking for a complete experience go elsewhere.

Firstly, although we made a reservation we were still given the worst table in the restaurant (next to the toilet) although other tables were clearly empty. We let this go, as we had previously been delighted by our visits and were giving them the benefit of the doubt. WRONG! The staff tonight were not up to scratch, sorry but that's the only way I can discribe their effort tonight!

This is a fatal error as food and service go hand in hand, one, without the other, fails! Good food can only be appreciated if served professionally and with a smile !

However the service tonight was detrimental to the meal and makes us question whether to recommend this pub to anyone. Value for money - food yes, service NO.

The wine by the glass selection is not available as per menu and I wasn't advised of this until I had been completely humiliated! NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THIS STANDARD OF RESTAURANT/PUB! If you price wine by the glass you should sell it or remove it from your wine list.
