I'm sorry to read Dave Mason's experience of the Little John...My wife and I spent a great week in the area(2nd to 7th May) and dined there most evenings....As a climber also, I know that the food quantity can be daunting to say the least! But it in no way diminished the quality and the pleasantness/helpfulness of the staff..I shall certainly visit The Little John again on my next trip to The Peaks.(Dave, do give it another try)

Had used this pub on two other occasions, with my wife and with friends, and put a reasonable amount over the bar in the process. The food at both visits was quite good, and the wine was excellent. The mood of one of the waitresses however did not match the rest of the service, but hey ho ! she might have just had a bad day !
Called in again on first Friday in October to book a table for my wife and self for the following Sunday, met said waitress again, smiled and asked if I might be able to book a table for the coming Sunday, only to be told "Sorry,we don't take bookings for less than 8 people.....WHAT ? And as I could not rustle up the requisite number of bodies, decided to go back to the caravan and cook it myself....I didn't realise that a pub could arbitrarily set minimum numbers. Surely two definite bookings are better than none..Won't bother going there again !
