The Phoenix, Oxford Circus

great bitter range, spitfire and black sheep were well kept and well pulled, reasonably priced as well, even my local in the north charges more for a pint of spitfire! not tried the food but heard its good from plenty who live and work in this location. definitely worth a slight detour if you're doing the oxford street shopping bit

The Cock, Oxford Circus

being from up north and having tasted sam smiths in tadcaster, the ale isn't great here... well it wasn't when i visited, the food served upstairs was pretty good really, proper sausage and mash for 5.95 is a bit of a bargain considering the location, shame about the flat ale mind

The Jug Inn, Chapel Haddlesey

No local pub can come close to the Jug for quality food, the dedicated restaurant is pretty unique for the area and the food beats local competition hands down. I'm sure drinkers may consider other pubs in the area, although the cask ales on sale are well kept by the landlord, who appears to be a frustrated real ale man.

Where this pub REALLY beats the local competition hands down is the food, there is some serious talent behind some traditional and some more adventurous dishes that appear on the menu. This is definitely NOT pub grub, no piles of chips here. The Jug have found a niche in the area. There arent many places to go if you want a proper quality meal in the local area but the Jug offers easily the best food in the area, with a mature and friendly crowd of locals this really is the only place to go south of selby if you want something nice to eat! excellent
