The White Hart, Wood Street

In a beautiful old building in a picturesque village, tucked away behind quaint little cottages just off the village green, I had high hopes for the White Hart. The old building had been beautifully restored and the dcor was immaculate no corners had been cut when designing the new interiors.

Shame that same love and attention didnt extended to the service.

After a drink at the bar we were shown to our table where we ordered from the reasonably priced set menu, although I noted at this point there wasnt a lot of vegetarian options. We all ordered fish cakes to start followed by the roast beef.

After waiting nearly 20 minutes for our starters with noone coming to our table to explain or apologise about the wait, I called the waitress over and asked for some bread. After 10 minutes had passed the bread still hadnt arrived so I asked another member for some bread, which arrived pretty promptly but was followed pretty quickly with the first waitress bringing another basket who then rolled her eyes, tutted very loudly, and told me off for ordering off another staff member as she would now have to go and remove one lot from our bill. I though the fact they had added bread to our bill after we had waited so long was bad enough so her rudeness on top of this I found absolutely appalling.

When our starters did arrive they were burnt. They had a nice wusabi sauce though.

After our first course we had another long wait for our main courses and again no one came over to explain, or even offer us more drinks.

When the main courses did arrive, the meat was burnt around the edges, the vegetables were cold, there wasnt enough potatoes for three people and had a miniscule amount of gravy on my plate and as the meat was so nasty and dry I asked for some more this then took 10 minutes to arrive by which time everything was cold. Needless to say at the point I had given up.

When the waiter came to clear our plates, mine was still full my mum and boyfriend had eaten half, he asked if everything was ok and I started to point out what was wrong, to which he stopped me mid sentence with a filthy look and said
well madam I think youll find thats the first complaint weve had all day and just walked off, no apology, nothing!

We had heard the table next to us discuss amongst them selves how appalling the service was so weather they were planning to complain I dont know.

I had visited the white Hart to celebrate my birthday and left feeling father upset at the way we had been treated, it put a real downer on the day.
