Let's clear one or two things up here. Firstly, the 'rough estate' referred to is virtually Platt Bridge, and there are 4 or 5 pubs closed than the Dover.
Bob and Sue ran a nice pub with no problems with scrotes or behaviour, though they inherited it with prevailing problems. The trouble is Bob and Sue wanted out pretty much as soon as they were in, so there wasn't much incentive to make a big effort, though the beer was always good, I thought the food was average and a bit pricey and was the beer.
The new owners have smartened the place up a bit and it's good to see. Beer has come down 20p per pint, and the menu is good and very reasonably priced. We are there a few weeks back and the food was OK but not great - no better than typical chain fayre and similarly priced. The BIG disappointment for me is that they don't allow dogs. It is a semi-rural pub on popular walking trails and was a great place for me to escape to with the dog but no more sadly.
