The Chequers, Potters Bar

If you like great beer, a brilliantly friendly atmosphere and a landlord and landlady who are a pleasure to speak to, then look no further than the chequers.

I've only been going there for a year or two every now and then but I can't understand the other reviews that have been placed on here. There is no smell of stale beer, the people behind the bar are always very hygienic!! friendly and happy to help. Moreover, the toilets are always in a good condition and kept very clean (I hear the ladies are even better).

Sure, the place has a dated feel - but that's why it's such a great pub. It's homely and full of great people from millionaires (no kidding) to students through to your typical regular. If you want fancy decor then bugger off elsewhere, it's about the experience here, not whether the light fixtures are new.
