The Jolly Miller, North Warnborough

I had the unfortunate experience of staying here recently after my secretary booked me a room at short notice when I had some business in Basingstoke. The rooms are dirty & dated & the bed may well have been older then the actual building. The landlord was uncaring & unwelcoming & according to some of the customers I spoke to in the bar, has alienated most of the locals who now don't go there anymore.
The USP of this pub is that it serves Thai food. Great I thought ! As a regular visitor to Thailand I love Thai food so I decided to give it a go. The restaurant and bar is sparkly & new as it has recently been refurbished. The service was with a smile & I was shown to a table by a very friendly young man. A wide & varied menu was presented to me & I chose my usual favourite of Thai green curry. What a disappointment! The taste was like plastic & it was akin to a bad supermarket curry - and this is at London West End prices. The rice was hard & undercooked. I'd have done better getting a microwave meal from Asda.
Had a word with my secretary after this & raised my overnight stay budget. I guess you get what you pay for as far as rooms go and the room was cheap - but you won't get any value if you eat here. Good to stay here if you want a cheap room but I've had more authentic Pot Noodles than the curry I was served here.
