I don't know where the negative comments come from. I don't go to this pub often enough to be considered a 'regular', but I've always been treated curtiously, and the prices aren't any worse than lots of pubs in the area.
The 'interesting' characters are a bonus!

The Page, Pimlico
I've been drinking in this pub since it became a Slug and Lettuce (The Royal Gardener, as it was before, was a real dive!), always found the staff and locals friendly (No, my name is NOT Henrietta!)
Love the addition of the Thai restaurant. Food is great and so is the chef.
