The City Barge, Chiswick

The City Barge is a pub in a lovely location by the Thames in Chiswick. It has to be said that the pub itself is looking tired, the fixtures and fittings could do with a spruce up. Greene King could also do with reviewing their staffing. When I went in the pub was busy and one girl was on her own trying to serve on both the bars and take the food out. This was impossible for her to acheive and there were irate people complaining about the length of time they had to wait. It was not the girl behind the bar's fault but she was getting a lot of comments from people getting angry with her due to the waiting time. The food is good, I had fish and chips and my wife had a lasagna, both of which were good quality and tasty. Again we had to wait for our food, but it was worth it as it was good, besides we could see the girl serving was doing her best to get food out while serving drinks. Sunny day should surely mean more staff needed.
The pub itself should be a gold mine, with the right number of staff and a sensitive refurbishment (keeping the character of the place) it could be a great. I will return here as I had a nice time. I just find it a shame to see a place struggling when all it needs is a little investment from the brewery.
