Wetherspoons pubs for me are generally the Ryanair of pubbing: strong brand and cheap. You know that you are not going to get a unique experience. You know that you will have seen it a million times before even if the pub in question is new to you. But you will use them generally because it gets you where you are going: either on the way to somewhere else or on your way to get trolleyed. That said, I have to say that this Wetherspoons pub offers nothing other than cheap beer. The food is terrible even by Wetherpspoons' standards and the atmosphere is hostile and edgy. Located next to a bookie and over the road from the job centre, it is full of people who seem to spend their entire time in that exact vicinity. Just don't even think about going here. I rate this as 1, just because it is cheap.

The Oval Tavern, Croydon

Love this place. Many reasons to go: chilled out for all the right reasons (not in a pretentious hoxton/shoreditch 'chilled' way. I mean in a great atmosphere and well arranged design condusive to jibber jabber way), great staff (I hesitate to call them this, as you feel more like a guest and they are so friendly and up for it), good beer and music and not a chav in sight. I like this place so much that I am tempted to tell you NOT to go, so it won't change.
