The Mug House Inn, Bewdley

Ok lunch out with the wife and two kids to Bewdley, where there is one of the best fish and chip shops in Britain (merchants) and plenty of good pubs, but this pub ruined our day as you can see by the photo above. Outside the pub theres a pavement then road, then on the right of this is another small paved area next to the River Severn with some of those aluminium tables and chairs. We had bought some cod and chips to enjoy by the river I went into the pub to get beer cider etc at the awkwardly shaped bar no cask real cider, the staff mentioned Westons, could not see tap for this only a Stowford Press font so bought this, some Pepsi (asked for Coke given Pepsi no explanation ) and a pint of Teme Valley This went back to the rivers edge to enjoy, a few sips into our drinks the barman comes out if the pub and said to us you cant eat fish and chips there it was really embarrassing we had to leave, theres the thanks . we had just spent hard earned money at there establishment we hadnt bought drinks from elsewhere we were not sitting in there pub/ restaurant nor there large glass covered beer garden apparently the biggest in Bewdley I could see an advert for that but no sign to inform me of the policy re eating on other side of the public road only plenty of signs for their b and b why such an unfriendly stance oh hang on Ive just seen the name of there restaurant the Angry Chef I wondered if the warm and friendly welcome was only extended to people using there restaurant or accommodation. Theres a bigger point pubs are closing at a rate of 39 per week (spring 2010 British beer and pub association) The landlord of the Camra 2006 poty Tom Cobley tavern Spreyton Devon is fond of saying running a successful pub isnt rocket science hes right this short sighted attitude of the mug house unlike the Camra poty 2003 the crown and thistle that pretty much won it on the attitude to customers with food plating up, cutlery and condiments is surely better vis I would have had another round another 7 visited again and recommend the place to friends so thats a lot of profit down the drain well the best of British luck to him fortunately there are plenty of other pubs in Bewdley or maybe next time we will go to Bridgnorth.

Lion Hotel, Leintwardine

Surly barman when asked to remove sparkler said he would when he returned with fullers London pride that resembled a pint of theakstones and was challenged replied the law ???. Public bar a kharzi, and pay the same amount for a pint as in the rest of the pub (I use this expression loosely as its really a restaurant). Avoid like the plague! unless you like to be treated like this, and oh yes wait 10 minutes for service
