Toad Rock Retreat, Rusthall

Went here for lunch with friend. We were warmly welcomed and had a good menu to choose from. We decided on a cheddar ploughmans and a stilton ploughmans. Both excellent value for money. Good quality cheese and plenty of accompaniments. Not overwhelmed with salad to make the portion look bigger! Very friendly staff. Will definitely be returning.

The Plough, Plumpton Green

Went for lunch on a sunny day recently. Good selection of beers but considered food poor value. The ham of egg ham and chips was tasteless. Chips good but small portion. Cheese ploughmans at 8.50 (approx) was the biggest let down. The smallest piece of cheddar I have ever seen served, the plate overwhelmed with lettuce to make it look a good size. Has a large outside area for fine days but could do with smartening up. I never cease to be amazed that so many places (restaurants as well as pubs), do not realise that customers will always return if they get value for money. They will also tell their friends.
In summary, not a bad pub, but so typical of many others that can't quite make enough effort. I shan't be returning.
