The Duke of Marlborough, St Albans

Would normally have steered clear of this pub as have found it unwelcoming before, but I know it has had undergone a change of ownership so thought I would pop in with the missus to see if it has changed much since my last visit (albeit a few years ago!) and we were pleasantly surprised, the place is looking much cleaner and has obviously had some time and money spent on it. The staff on the bar were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was much nicer than I remember. A good selection of Ales were on offer, namely Tribute, Reverend James and Ansells Mild! Something I haven't seen for a long time! I opted for the Tribute and found it most appealing and the wife had a glass of Pinot Grigio. I was informed by the Landlord (Jay) that they were looking to focus more on the Ales than the pub had in the past, with a much more varied selection. The weather was nice so we headed outside to the very large decked area, again this was looking much cleaner and more welcoming, with hanging baskets and flowers and new outdoor furniture. All in all we had an enjoyable experience and I will certainly be returning to sample some more of the Ales on offer!
