Nancy's, Pall Mall

This pub is not closed rather renamed as Nancy's. And why not? The previous owners tarnished the name. Here we have a gem: charming and passionate individuals trying to do something different and special, namely entertaining through good quality alcohol and good music and company. The clientel may not be bearded camra devotes, but the ale and wine is top notch and diverse. The landlord may not have a bloated nose and drooping gut but he knows his stuff and is a pleasure to meet. After a few visits everyone know's your name or makes the effort too. This is a new concept, blending old fashioned good-ol-local charms with a classy outlook.

Baggy David.

They may serve doubles without asking; that's because they are NICE. What fool criticises a pub for selling doubles? Were you offended by the fact that the bar staff were attractive and well dressed? The price of a pint is less than most SW postcodes. Flat bitter at lager temperature with no head? Bitter has no head. Unless the stars really did collide, flat and cold is hard to come by. And 'suprisingly empty' at lunch? That's no crime.

The Fox and Grapes, Wimbledon Common

A real Tolkienesque gem allowing the drinker to escape the wonders of modern london life. Cosy and heartwarming, this pub offers a superb range of real ales, often from Cornish breweries. The manager and his staff make it, as they are friendly, chatty and polite, despite being busy. A happy corner in what can seem miserable south london. Well done.

The Turf Tavern, Oxford

Oh dear oh dear, Greene King what are you up to again? Real nice refurbishment, a comprehensive attempt to wipe out the character and charm of the pub. Still, at least the one grace is that the beer range and quality is one of the best in the country. Funny that not a soul was caught drinking anything from the Greene King 'portfolio'. Wonder why...(does anybody drink GK in here?) A succesful pub, for two reasons which never in my life have I associated with this PubCo:
The beer is amazing, and the staff are knowlegable and chatty. If this was a free house or owned by a local like Wychwood, then 10/10.
