The Prince of Wales, Macclesfield
A good traditional pub. It has a strongly local feel and has definite locals corners, but that's no bad thing. Decently served beer and generally pleasant. Even better when the open fire it lit. Can get very busy but that perhaps reflects how good it is.

I went to this pub as it was the nearest to Stockport Station but I can't say I'll be going again. A Bank Holiday perhaps wasn't the best day to go as it was almost empty and so it was very quiet and had no atmosphere. But it also had a poor selection of beer and even the lager tasted a bit odd. It felt a bit tatty, the furniture was uncomfortable and cheap, and yet I'd have thought in that location it should have been able to do well. Generally disappointing.

The Castle, Macclesfield
A good pub with a slightly Polish twist (the landlord seems to be Polish and in the run-up to Euro 2012 they were serving Polish food and doing Polish beer at a discount. Very quiet when I went in, but I assume it isn't always like that. Very locally orientated but nice. Lots of small rooms that make it somewhere interesting to explore. Pleasant.
