The Pig and Whistle, Newcastle

Utterly abysmal. It does at least not try and hide the fact that it's by charvers, for charvers, and made with charvers in mind. I would at least go the once just to see what it's like, in the same way that I'd recommend shovelling shit for 12 hours to make you appreciate your job. Upon leaving a pint of Carling in the Beehive will feel like a glass of Krug at the Savoy. Anyone who goes here on a regular basis is without any shadow of doubt a lost cause.

The Mushroom, Newcastle

Another of those 'I'd wish I'd never left my house' bars that makes you say exactly that. Very dark (a blessing), and full of charvers, this is a bar that doesn't know what to do with itself. Given the fact it's equidistant with the Bigg Market (terrible), and the Grainger Market (terrible, and older), it's got a catchment area you'd kill to get out of. Does it offer a good pint, a good night, a good meal, a nice view, good bands, or anything at all? No. It's just the same bar you can go into in any town in any corner of the land, and they're all rubbish.

The Black Garter, Newcastle

Obviously really poor. Why you would visit here when you literally have hundreds of other pubs in the square mile you're already stood in amazes me. I guess so that you can watch the racing with other like-minded human waste, sipping on a bad pint of scotch or ex or whatever gloop you drink because it's the cheapest pint in the pub. Probably the least terrible out of the stretch of shite that is this end of town, but that's just like choosing which one of six dog turds you'd rather stamp on in your slippers.
