The Fentiman Arms, Kennington

Lunch at the Fentiman yesterday. Bad stomach today. We arrived for lunch at 2.30, food arrived at the table at 3.50. We waited for 5 more minutes for cutlery to be found. Roast beef, roast lamb and confit duck all almost cold. The vegetables of the season turned out to be a couple of grey and cool 'roast' potatoes and a few sliced carrots hiding under the single slice of meet. Nothing looked or tasted 'freshly cooked to order'.
In fairness, one member of staff was efficient and helpful. The other waiting staff, and manageress were less than hospitable. Our empty plates were cleared and pudding menus handed round whilst one of our table was still eating. Two of our party had cheese and biscuits for afters, supposedly served with chutney. The offering was much more like mince pie filling. We were told this was intentional. Always nice to have sunday lunch with friends, it's a shame The Fentimen was such a dissapointment. Not cheep either - best part of �40 each.
