The Doric Arch, Euston

The Doric Arch is situated at the foot a drab office block in the station concourse. But inside, it has the surprising ambience of a genuine backstreet pub: long wooden tables and benches, barstools, a booth and a fine selection of ales in bottles and on draught, in this case Fuller's. The decor pays homage to rail travel, with maps, metal signs and other memorabilia on the walls and ceiling.
A welcome alternative the generic station bar, The DA is the main reason I book a later train home, allowing me time for 2 or more of Mr. Fuller's fine products before heading off.

The Baltic Fleet, Liverpool

During a boring works do over the road in Albert Dock, a mate and I decided to escape and stumbled across this place. Built in a time when Liverpool was a thriving seaport, the exterior is shaped like a flat iron and painted to resemble a ship's hull. Inside, the pub is nothing special ... until you see the tantalising selection of beers offered. As well as its own award-winning brews there are bottled ales from all over Europe, some of which I've not seen anywhere else. But the BF's just as inviting to the casual drinker looking for a good, quiet pub with no jukebox or scallies to spoil the relaxing atmosphere.

The Crown and Sugarloaf, Bride's Lane

Situated in a side alley off Fleet St, The Crown and Sugarloaf is one of those pubs all too rarely encountered these days. A real gem, with a beautiful Victorian interior, homely atmosphere and good service - a wonderful place to find yourself in near the end of a pub crawl. It has as much to offer the casual drinker as the dedicated beer hunter, who should know it stocks every Sam Smiths brew, much of it on draught. Use it now before the glass-and-chrome meeting places of the high street take over completely.
