The George, Robertsbridge

Four of us had lunch here on a Friday afternoon. From the moment we walked in Jane was friendly and welcoming. There were, I think, 2 ales on offer, Sussex Bitter and another I now cannot remember (although none in our party had this one). My Dad had never tried either of the ales and asked if there was a smooth bitter - Jane offered a sample taste of each!! When was the last time this happened to you?!?! Anyway, the Sussex Bitter was great.

For lunch 2 of us had the Tempura Hastings Cod & Chips and the other 2 had the Steak & Kidney Pie with fresh veg and chips. Well, the food was simply incredible!!! Everyone remarked how much meat was in the pie, and how smooth and light the batter on the fish was (you could actually taste the fish under the batter - and no, it did not repeat!!).

Seriously great pub. Excellent food and friendly landlady who is passionate about the business. There is no question that I will be back. I will not hesitate to recommend this pub to anyone but lager louts and those wishing for a sterile sports pub.

Oh, and don't forget to say hello to the Bassett hound ...
