The Kings Head, Wadenhoe

The pub has the most fantastic setting as the garden is next to the river, gorgeous on a sunny summer's day. There are often boats moored alongside which is nice.

The menu is ok but really needs updating. There's been no change to the only vegetarian option for over two years and puts me off going there even though my other half loves it, but then he has loads of meaty options! Even if there was a veggie special it would be a start, but often there isn't :-(

The bar staff can get a bit fraught when it's busy and a few weeks ago people were being turned away for food from 8pm in the evening, many were locals who were upset by the attitude of the lady in charge. Something was obviously going wrong that night as where we were sat outside we could hear arguments in the kitchen! Not great!

As mentioned, the garden is lovely but they won't serve food in it (assuming health and safety of staff walking down a gentle slope with food?) which is a real shame and a wasted opportunity. If they'd allow people to take picnics, but no drinks, into the garden they'd possibly get more people turning up too and a good revenue from drinks but it's not allowed.

It's good, but could be much better.

The Fox Inn, Willian

Have just had a really disappointing vegetarian meal here. Two veggie starter options and only one main course.

Was told "we're mainly a fish restaurant" by the waiting staff and yet there was at least duck, chicken, beef, pork, bream, salmon for the meat eaters and yet only risotto (which I personally didn't like and so couldn't eat) for veggies. Is it unreasonable to ask for some variety for non-meat eaters in today's day and age?

The website says it "serves modern English food and seafood from north Norfolk, an unusual twist in landlocked Hertfordshire." and food websites call it a "Gastropub" - neither of which would tell me it was mainly a fish restaurant...

For a restaurant that is locally thought highly of, I'm really disappointed.

Pub-wise, the fact dogs are accepted in the bar is good.
