The Panther Inn, Reigate

Crikey, the changes to this pub have evidently polarised opinions!

I'm very much in the Fussy Drinker camp. I was brought up very close to the old Panther and used to frequent this occasionally as the then landlord turned a blind eye to us being underage. As soon as I was old enough to get into other pubs, I avoided it.

I returned to Reigate last year after a 20 year absence and tried the Panther to see if it had improved, and it hadn't. As before, 95% male clientele, primarly clique-y regulars who were not at all friendly or welcoming. American Werewolf job.

What a great change. Nice airy environment, better garden and good range of beers and wines, and clever, well-priced platter menus and attached deli giving you the option to buy to take home the bits on the menu that you liked. I've been there a number of times and the cleintele is mixed and interesting.

I really like it and visit regularly

The Freeholders, Farncombe

I've always come away disappointed from this pub and I've persevered for 3 or 4 visits to make sure it wasn't just 1 bad evening (I'm that dedicated!) .

Unless you're an avid player of pool or fruit machines, I'm not sure what this strangely laid-out pub has to offer. Certainly the beer isn't kept particualrly well and unusually for a Fullers pub the range of ales is limited (no ESB and few seasonal ales).

Also the clientele is rather cliquely and the welcome to those outside the clique is not especially friendly - think American Werewolf in London!

The Cricketers, Farncombe

I'm very surprised that this great little pub should get such a low rating. I only moved into the area within the last year but visit the pub once a week or so and the beer is always good, the staff friendly and efficient, and the locals are charming.

What with good live music and reasonably priced 'honest' food, what's not to like?

I can only assume that the mark must have been dragged down by historic poor scores - certainly I think that The Cricketers is far better than the other pubs in the vicinty all of which score more highly on this site
