The Rowbarge Hotel, St Johns

Having seen the negative comments posted about my local, I felt I had to redress the balance. Yes the beers are a bit pricier than other pubs in the area but they are very well kept and I've never had a bad pint in there. What is more, the pub is extremely well run - the service staff are attentive, quick, friendly and efficient.

I've eaten there too and I have to say that the food is also very good indeed, in generous portions and not too expensive. What's more the pub has a large garden with a really good play area for kids. I have a five year old son and in the summer on Sundays they have a bouncy castle which is excellent. So anyway, this pub is also very good for families too.

The Rowbarge did have a makeover a couple of years ago but it was sympathetic, generally improving the environment whilst maintaining the best features (although I agree it is a shame they got rid of the pool table). Overall this boozer has a good convivial atmosphere (especially on Friday and Saturday nights) and I, for one, would not hesitate to recommend it if you're passing through St. Johns or fancy getting out of Woking.

Oh yeah, and after a couple of beers, why not make a short walk down the road to the Vojon curry house (also in St. Johns), host to Wokings Curry Chef of the Year (for about the third year running!) ;-)
